"Is bloating in early pregnancy really normal?"
"Hi Melissa, I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I have been getting pain in my tummy like period pain and my tummy is looking very bloated .... I've been reading on some web sites and what I'm getting is normal unless the pain gets worse. I had a miscarriage 5 years ago at 12 weeks before having my daughter who is now 4 but I'm always worried.
Our midwife Melissa says:
"Congratulations on your pregnancy! It’s very exciting news. It can be very normal to get some pain and bloating early in pregnancy. Until you reach 12 weeks, your uterus is deep in your pelvis, but is obviously growing in size. This can cause cramping. It should resolve by about 12 weeks as your uterus moves up out of your pelvis to become an abdominal organ. Likewise, the bloating will also improve."
