You may be shown one way to wrap your baby, but there are different variations you can experiment with. The trick is to wrap your baby in a way that they won't easily unravel. Your caregivers can make this task look very easy, but they have had plenty of practice!
One of the more common ways of wrapping can be:
| |
| 1.
|
Spreading the wrap of your choice on a flat surface. Depending on the size of the material, you can leave it open or you may need to fold it in half. |
| 2.
|
Lay your baby on the top of the material. The edge of the wrap can be in line with the back of their head, or the top of their shoulders, whichever you prefer. Your baby will naturally hold their arms and legs slightly bent (just as they did in the uterus). This is normal and there is no need to straighten their limbs, they will gradually 'unfold' as your baby grows older. |
| 3.
|
Bring one side of the material diagonally across your baby's shoulder and tuck it under their back, close to the opposite armpit (so their other arm remains free). You may need to gently roll your baby slightly onto their side to tuck the material in. The material should feel snug around your baby but not too tight. |

Image 11-56 and shows the corner of the bunny rug folded into a triangle shape, with one arm being tucked into the fold before being taken across their shoulder.
