Reflux - support strategies for

Reflux - support strategies for

Parents of babies with reflux are often exhausted (both physically and emotionally). Your baby will often need extra 'hands on' care to soothe and comfort them, as well as extra patience, to deal with their vomiting and distress. If you baby is vomiting continually, your washing can seem to be never ending and the stains on your carpet, lounges and clothes a little despairing. One thing to bear in mind is that...

........just about all babies will grow out of their reflux on their own, if given time.

Most treatments available (both medical and natural), as well as possible support strategies are generally geared towards merely lessening the physical signs of reflux, or coping with them, rather than curing the condition.

Whether your baby is being treated with medications and/or natural therapies (or nothing in particular), you will no doubt need to look at some strategies to help you survive your baby's distress and vomiting. There are also some things you can do to help minimise the symptoms. It is important to keep all your options open, and be flexible about using any suggested support strategies, settling techniques (or even natural therapies or medications).

It can be extremely stressful for parents living with a baby who has long periods of crying. Parents often feel guilty that it is somehow their 'fault', with this period of parenting quickly eroding what little confidence they had developed. You may wish to read about settling techniques for your crying baby in class 12 to help you get through the periods of inconsolable crying. The most important thing to remember is to have some regular breaks yourself. Call in support if you have a supportive network around you and try and make life easier by taking it in turns, or getting help with housework, nappy service, take away meals etc. (if you can afford these).

Some other measures that you may want to try if your baby has reflux can include:
