What some women find helpful for their nausea and vomiting
Up to 15% of women will feel nauseous beyond 20 weeks of their pregnancy. This may be a continuation of the influence of the pregnancy hormones, however if it continues into late pregnancy, it is often due to ongoing stress, anxiety and/or fatigue.
Pregnancy can be a stressful time for all involved. For the pregnant woman, personal and lifestyle stresses will often produce the physical signs of feeling nauseated and/or vomiting at times. Reasons for feeling stressed may include:
| |
Not actually enjoying the experience of pregnancy. |
Feeling tired, unsupported, and unable to get a break. |
Possibly feeling ambiguous and unsure about the prospect of being a mother (or having more children to care for), as well as how this will affect your lifestyle, work, career and relationships. |
Experiencing relationship problems, moving house, pressure from work, financial concerns, renovations being half completed. |
Concerns about the pregnancy, the health of the baby and/or the outcomes of labour (or even the sex of the child you are carrying). |
Concerns about the baby dying, especially if this has happened in a previous pregnancy. |
Caregivers working with pregnant women will often notice that a woman's nausea and vomiting will 'miraculously' disappear if she takes a break, goes on a holiday, stops work, circumstances change or if someone minds the toddler for a day or so. And for the nausea to return, if life goes back to what is was when she was nauseated. .
NOTE:It is important that if you feel suddenly sick you should contact your caregiver and rule out any illnesses.
