Therapies & treatments

Therapies & treatments

Some women have found natural therapies are helpful. Check with your caregiver or practitioner.

Dietary supplements. Bioflavonoids, Garlic and Vitamin C are believed to help strengthen the connective tissue around the veins that supports them.

Herbal. Herbalists may suggest witch hazel ointment or pouring witch hazel or diluted lemon juice, or vinegar onto a small gauze pad and applying it to the area overnight with a loose bandage. Some women find that just cold compresses can give temporary relief. Other herbal remedies may include nettle, yarrow, St. John's Wort and Shepard's Purse to help with the blood flow. Consult your herbalist.

Homoeopathy. Homoeopathic treatments can include Hammamelis or Calcarea fluorica. See your homoeopath for recommendations.

Aromatherapy. An aromatherapist may suggest using a few drops of lemon and/or geranium oil in a bath or diluted and soaked into a gauze pad as a direct compress to the area. Consult your practitioner for the appropriate oil and instructions for their use.
