Emotional changes - surprised, excited, happy, relieved

Emotional changes - surprised, excited, happy, relieved

Discovering that you are actually pregnant will invariably bring a feeling of surprise. Watching your pregnancy test change colour, or listening to your caregiver telling you, "You are indeed pregnant", can take a while to sink in. This can be the case, irrespective of whether the pregnancy was planned or not. It may be that you have conceived more quickly than you anticipated, or that you are finally pregnant after some time of trying (or perhaps were involved fertility treatments). Perhaps you doubted your ability to conceive (or thought you couldn't). Whatever the case, when the pregnancy suddenly becomes a reality, surprise is a common initial reaction.

Many women describe their early pregnancy feelings as waves of emotions, washing over them. These may include excitement, joy, disbelief, and happiness. Some women will want to shout their news from the rooftops (and may do so!) While, others may want to keep their news privately to themselves, until they feel ready to share it with others. In some cases, your news may be hard to hold back, as others guess you are pregnant from your inner happiness! Telling your partner can be part of expressing your joy and excitement. Just be aware that they may initially need to deal with feeling surprised, before they can move into feelings of happiness and joy with you!

If the pregnancy has finally come after a long difficult and possibly stressful path to conception, finding out you are pregnant can bring about great feelings of relief and emotional release. (If this is the case, 'Congratulations!') Your joy may be expressed as tears, mixed with a sense of accomplishment about your womanhood, fertility and your ability to grow and nurture another life.
