Often your reactions to grief and the way you are feeling can manifest in physical symptoms as well. These can range from difficulty sleeping and experiencing vivid dreams about your baby, not feeling very hungry or eating for comfort, uncontrolled crying or lack of physical strength, feeling irritable, or tired, feeling dizzy or having stomach pains. Many parents can lose the desire to have sex, but some can use it as a form of release. Your physical reactions will pass over time but if you find they are incapacitating you, discuss them with your caregiver.
Some people will utilise natural therapies to help them deal with their body's physical reactions. Burning aromatherapy oils such as Clary sage, Lavender and Rose are commonly used to support grieving. Using essential oils while being massaged can help release and heal muscle tension and trauma, as well as facilitate the release of emotions held in the body. Acupuncture can also work on a deep level to stimulate, release and regulate your individual physical and emotional reactions.
For some parents natural therapies may not feel right, others may find that arranging weekly, fortnightly or monthly massages can be nurturing, releasing and healing. When seeing your natural therapist it is helpful to tell them about your loss (if you feel comfortable about this) so that they can treat you with the most appropriate remedies.
