Healthy, 'glowing', I hate pregnancy!

Healthy, 'glowing', I hate pregnancy!

I hate being pregnant!

Many pregnant women feel physically well during the middle months of their pregnancy often expressing how healthy they feel. Usually your body has adapted to the high levels of pregnancy hormones and your skin, hair and eyes can reflect an 'aura' of wellbeing. You may notice people remarking on how well you look or that you are literally 'glowing'. Emotions often become calmer and more balanced at this time, with many women feeling a sense of contentment about carrying their baby. (If there were doubts about the pregnancy before, you may be feeling more positive now.)

With the return of energy levels and the cessation of morning sickness, tiredness and other early pregnancy ailments, you may feel like resuming (or beginning) some form of physical activity to help prepare you physically for the labour, birth and the demands of early parenting.

I hate being pregnant!

Despite society's expectation that all pregnant women should feel happy, 'glowing' and radiant, for some women these feelings could not be further from the truth. A number of women feel unhappy about their body changing, perhaps even depressed and/or guilty about how they feel. This may lead to suppression of their true feelings in order to keep others around them happy. Or because others have dismissed these negative feelings as being silly, or have responded with comments like "It will improve' or "You will get over it.' It is important to be honest with how you are feeling and to realise that this is OK. If you are feeling very down and depressed all the time, you may need to talk with your caregiver, professional counsellor or seek medical advice. This is discussed further in feeling depressed.

A few women see pregnancy as just an essential physical process they must endure in order to have a baby. These feelings may come as a surprise if you expected to enjoy being pregnant but in reality have found this not to be the case.
