Bach flower remedies & bush flower essences

Bach flower remedies & bush flower essences

Bach flower remedies were developed in the 1930's by a Welsh doctor by the name of Dr Edward Bach. The basis of his therapy was to devise a system of emotional healing to treat the 'whole person', not just the illness. Bach flower remedies are often prescribed to overcome emotions of worry, fear or depression and restore vitality to the sick. Therefore, remedies are usually not prescribed directly for the physical complaint, but rather for the person's state of mind, taking into consideration their individual moods of fear, worry, anger and depression.

There are 38 remedies in total, which are prepared from the flowers of wild plants, bushes and trees to treat numerous different emotional states. For example, under the heading of 'fear' there are different remedies for different kinds of fear such as:

Terror,
Fear of a known cause,,
Fear of an unknown cause, ,
Fear of the mind ,
losing control and ,
Fear of other people.,

Some women will use Bach flower remedies for their labour and birth, aimed at balancing their moods and the various states of mind that may be experienced. Remedies may also be prescribed for the few days prior to labour, particularly if the woman is feeling anxious, or fearful about her labour.

One commonly used Bach flower remedy is called 'Rescue Remedy'. This is designed to combat fear, panic, shock, trauma, stress, and fear of losing control, as well as labour pains. There is an Australian version of Bach flower remedies called Australian bush flower essences. For example, the Australian adaptation of 'rescue remedy' is called 'emergency essence'.

It is recommended you consult with an experienced practitioner during the pregnancy, to enable them to prescribe remedies to meet your individual needs. Some women will take a few remedies with them in labour, with a written guide from their practitioner on how, and when to use them.
