Some women will use various natural therapies to augment their labour. This may be if their contractions have slowed, stopped or become ineffective. Or if their prelabour is prolonged, or they have broken their waters and are trying to stimulate contractions.

The woman may prefer to use natural therapies (or she wishes to avoid medical interventions to augment the labour). A few women will try these options, before possible transfer to the delivery suite, if they are planning to give birth in a birth centre or at home.

The following information is a guide only. Check with your caregiver about using natural therapies to augment your labour. The method(s) chosen will usually depend the woman's individual circumstances (and hers or her caregiver's preferences). Sometimes a combination of methods needs to be used to achieve results.
