What are some of the early signs of pregnancy?
Our midwife Melissa says:
"The most common early sign of pregnancy is a tingly, warm sensation in your breasts, and sometimes a fluttering sensation in your pelvis. Nausea may start a few weeks later, along with increased breast tenderness and a deepening of the colour of the areolas (the area around the nipples). Some women will experience food cravings and exhaustion, and others will notice an increased need to pass urine, but only pass small amounts. And of course, the most common thing that is noticed is that your period is late.
Around this time (if not before), most women will do a home pregnancy test. Once a positive pregnancy test is obtained, most women will see their GP or private midwife to commence care. You do not need a referral to see a private midwife, however you will need a midwife or GP referral to see an obstetrician."
