Q2. What happens if I need to transfer?

Q2. What happens if I need to transfer?

It is good to know that giving birth is usually a normal process, so most women (if left to their own devices) generally have a good chance that all will be relatively straightforward. In some cases, though, complications may arise for either you or your baby. This can mean that the place you originally chose to give birth may not be where you end up having your baby (or possibly need to move soon after the birth).

This may be particularly relevant if you are planning to have your baby at home or in a birth centre, but may also be relevant if you are going to a private hospital, a smaller public hospital or a rural hospital. For this reason, if you are not already planning to, it is advisable to prepare yourself for the possibility of giving birth in a major public hospital delivery suite, or having your baby transported to a hospital with facilities for very sick babies, if complications arise. You may wish to read transfer to hospital.
