If you are planning to be a stay-at-home dad there are a few communication and planning strategies that can be helpful in making the transition easier for all of you.
For the mother, the decision to return to work could be easy or heart wrenching. For most women, the reality of actually leaving their baby to return to work cannot be totally understood until the baby is actually born and the strong attachment to her child needs to be loosened. The mother's bond can be more hormonal than the father's, often making it physically more difficult to leave.
Talk about how you both really feel about the decision. Regularly discuss and reassess the situation and how you are adjusting to the arrangement. Be aware that it may not be easy for either of you and you may not gain a lot of emotional support from family and friends because you are challenging your socially expected roles.
