Some women, who have essential hypertension, mild pre-eclampsia, or the occasional high reading, will use natural therapies to help stabilise their blood pressure. These can include:
Gentle, regular physical activity such as walking, swimming or yoga. (Check with your caregiver). |
Stopping work and / or getting some help with looking after other children. |
Using rest and relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. Seeking out counselling (if this is what you need). |
Acupuncture or acupressure. |
Massage for relaxation and fluid retention. |
Some herbalists will recommend herbal teas such as chamomile, nettle, lime flower or dandelion. They may prescribe a tincture using Cramp Bark and Black Haw and Nettle, to help the kidneys and strengthen blood vessels. It is best to consult with a herbalist. |
Supplementing with vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E (for circulation), vitamin B6 , magnesium , calcium , potassium , and zinc . Check with your caregiver for recommended dosages. |
Taking essential fatty acids such as evening primrose, flaxseed or deep-sea fish oils. |
Using homoeopathic remedies or Bach flower remedies. See you practitioner to have a remedy that suits your needs. |
