What some women find helpful for their carpal tunnel
Many women experience feelings of numbness, 'pins and needles' or stiff painful hands. This is a common condition usually experienced during late pregnancy and is known medically as 'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome'. Fluid often accumulates in the body during pregnancy and can collect in the wrists. This puts pressure on the median nerve. The median nerve moves the muscles in the wrist and hand. Pressure on this nerve can cause numbness, stiffness, pain and 'pins and needles'.
Slumping your shoulders forward can also put pressure on your ulnar and median nerves. This can cause tingling and numbness in the arms as well as the hands.
Carpal tunnel often makes it more difficult for you to grasp objects, especially in the mornings (as the condition usually improves throughout the day). Having carpel tunnel can sometimes make it difficult to sleep at night but will generally improve within a few weeks or so after the birth.
