The following are examples of some common emotions that women, their partners or support people can experience during the 2nd stage of labour.

  Emotions for the woman, resting phase 2nd stage

Relieved that the contractions have eased off.
Worried or confused about why the contractions have weakened or stopped.
Exhausted.
Tired.
Anxious about getting the baby out.
Enjoying the quietness of the labour.
Excited about meeting your baby soon.
Relieved that you are finally fully dilated.
 


  Emotions for the Partner / Support person, resting phase 2nd stage

Relieved that the intense contractions of 1st stage have eased.
Concerned about why the contractions have faded away.
Anxious about her having enough energy to push the baby out.
Amazed that she can sleep now.
Feeling tired and exhausted from supporting her to this point.
Excited about the baby coming soon.
Worried about your reactions to when the baby will start to emerge from her vagina.
Relieved she is finally fully dilated.
