Undressing

Undressing

Undressing
Dressing

Depending on what your baby is wearing you can either start at their bottom or top, whichever you prefer. If bathing, leave the nappy on until last. If just changing, you may want to change the nappy first so the clean clothes don't become accidentally soiled. If the reason you need to change is because your baby has just had a large vomit, then their nappy may not need to be touched. As with anything new, practice makes perfect. Before long you will be able to do this in the dark!

If your baby is not keen on being changed, you can try changing them in stages, rather then completely stripping them down and reducing them to tears! Have everything you need ready before undressing your baby. This includes singlet, clothes, a wrap, clean nappy and any nappy changing equipment.

Undressing

Jumpsuits
Jumpers, T-shirts and singlets
Nighties
Tights or pants

Jumpsuits. Undo all the press-studs or fasteners on your baby's jumpsuit and gently slide their legs out of the suit. This can be done by holding the jumpsuit at the toe and gently lifting and guiding their leg out. Repeat for the other leg. Lift both your baby's legs slightly up by the ankles and slide the suit up their back to the shoulders. If their nappy needs changing, do this before undressing the top half of their body.

To take the top off, hold the cuff of the arm of the jumpsuit slightly up and away from your baby's body. Place your other hand inside the suit and gently guide their arm down and out of the sleeve of the jumpsuit. Repeat this for the other arm. Roll your baby to the side to take away the suit.

Jumpers, T- shirts and singlets. To remove jumpers, T- shirts and singlets you will need to take your baby's arms out one at a time, before taking the clothing over their head. This is usually done by putting your hand up under their clothing to their arm and guiding it down and out through the armhole.
