Donor Conception Support Group

Donor Conception Support Group

The Donor Conception Support Group of Australia Inc. is a self funding organisation run by volunteers and has been in existance since 1993. Starting with a membership of 20, we have now grown to approximately 600 adults and 300 children with members in USA, Canada, Hong Kong, NZ, Sweden, UK, Germany & Indonesia.

The membership is made up of people considering or using donor sperm, egg or embryo, those who already have children conceived on donor programmes, adult donor offspring and donors. We also have social workers , doctors and clinic staff as members of the support group.

We feel that Donor Gamete families need an ongoing support system. Unlike many other infertility treatments those using donor gametes continue to need support beyond the initial decision making and treatment.

Our aims are to provide support to:
  • People considering (or currently on)donor sperm, egg or embryo programs.
  • Donors - past and present.
  • Recipient families.
  • Parents.
  • Most importantly the children themselves.
  • To increase public awareness of the use of donor gametes.

As a support group we are able to help each other in making the decision to use a donor, and in the experience of being on a clinic program. For those who have children, the opportunity to meet other donor gamete families.

As children get older they sometimes feel they would like to talk to other donor conceived children as well. By becoming a member of the Support Group, the children can meet and grow up knowing other children who were conceived the same way they were and have the opportunity to discuss any issues they have with their peers.
