In Australia, the average circumcision rate for boys tends to be about 13%. In 2002, there were 19,054 boys circumcised, from statistics obtained through the Australian Health Insurance Commission (HIC) about the number of circumcisions claimed on Medicare. Of these, about 15,000 were performed before the child was 6 months old. About 3,000 were done between 6 months and 5 years, and about 1,000 were done between 5 and 14 years of age.
