In 2005 there were 13,302 breech babies (4.9% of all births - bearing in mind that some of these babies were premature). 10,550 were from singleton pregnancies (4% of all single babies) and 2644 were from twin pregnancies (29.8% of twins). Vaginal breech births made up 0.6% of all types of births (0.7% in 1999). Of all babies in a breech presentation at birth, 88.3% were born by caesarean and 11.7% were born vaginally. The following are the numbers of breech babies and vaginal breech births in each Australian state and territory.
