Aches and pains, what's not normal?


What is normal?

The experience of pregnancy is a journey of many new physical sensations. Whether it is your first, second or 'more', pregnancy your body will react differently to each individual pregnancy. Knowing what is 'normal' is not easy and any discomfort generally triggers concerns about the health of you or your baby.

The following is a general guide to some of the more common aches and pains experienced by pregnant women and some suggested possible causes. We will also discuss some pains that could be an indication of problems. If you are concerned about any pains you are experiencing then you should contact your caregiver for guidance and advice.

Cramping, scratching, moving and tugging pains during 12-16 weeks
Stitch pains in the groin
Corpus Luteal Cysts
Rib and chest wall pains
Strong Braxton Hicks contractions
Splitting, tearing belly pains
Tender, sore belly button or navel
Bruised sensations or sore spots
Low, heavy dragging aches and pains
Waist or flank pain
Upper or lower backache, pinching, shooting leg pains
Upper thigh and leg aches
Sore hips
Sharp, pinching pubic pains
Vaginal aching
Internal vaginal pains
